About the Little Minyan

A warm, participatory, lay-led community where everyone is welcome to take part in the service.

Who we are

The Little Minyan is a small, participatory community that gathers for Shabbat and holidays. We are lay-led: the davening, the Torah reading, and the d'var torah are all offered by members of the community rather than clergy. That's what makes the minyan feel like home — it belongs to the people who show up and take part.

How a service runs

Each service is built from a set of honors that members sign up for ahead of time:

  • Davening— leading sections of the service such as P'sukei D'zimra, Shacharit, the Torah service, and Musaf.
  • Torah reading — chanting the individual aliyot and maftir from the weekly parsha.
  • D'var Torah — offering a short teaching or reflection on the parsha.
  • Kiddush & snack — bringing something to share afterwards so we can schmooze together.

The gabbaim coordinate the flow of the service on the day, using a logistics sheet generated from everyone's sign-ups.

Everyone is welcome

You don't need to be an expert to participate. Whether you're leading for the first time or you've been chanting Torah for decades, there's a place for you. If you'd like help preparing, just ask — see the resources page for guides and contacts.

Getting involved

The easiest way to take part is to pick an upcoming date and claim an honor. To stay in the loop about when we're meeting, join the mailing list.
